The History of Vegas Electric
Vegas Electric is an energy solutions company based on the island of Roatan, Honduras.
Founded in 1987 by American electrical engineer Charles George (affectionately known as ‘Vegas’), the company has been providing electrical and renewable energy solutions to the Bay Islands for more than 30 years.
In the late 80’s there was no electrical grid, so Vegas Electric designed and installed microgrids powered by diesel generators. Our first projects included the Coxen Hole seafood processing plant and Warren’s supermarket.
These early partnerships with local businesses helped to create economic opportunity for the islands and laid the foundation for trust and long-standing relationships which endure to this day.
The Roatan Electrical Company (RECO) was established in 1992. As the initial electrical grid was installed and coverage expanded, demand for commercial and residential systems surged.
The need for electrical contracting services increased and project requirements became more complex. Vegas Electric responded by strengthening technical and leadership capabilities through our memberships in electrical standards organizations.
At the turn of the millennium, Vegas Electric began consciously building competency and forming strategic partnerships in the renewable energy sector.
Our early renewable installations were off-grid solutions for customers in areas without grid access, who wanted alternatives to generators.
As our experience and knowledge grew, we realized there were distinct motivations driving demand.
We developed an approach to better understand our customers’ requirements and profile their energy consumption.
As our renewable business grew, we once again invested heavily in building competence. through training, certifications, and strategic partnerships.
Our expertise in solar technology, design, and engineering enables us to deliver customized solutions that provide economic returns.
In 2021, under the stewardship of a new CEO, Vegas Electric has firmly positioned itself as a market leader in renewable energy solutions while still maintaining a core competency in the electrical engineering design and installation of residential and high-voltage systems.
