Solar Pool Pump

Reduce your energy costs and carbon footprint by going solar

Electric pool pumps consume on average 15% to 20% of monthly energy usage.  By installing a solar pool pump to replace your electrical pump, you can expect a similar reduction in your electrical costs.

The solar pump is sized to recycle the entire volume of water in the pool 1 to 2 times within a 6 hour period.  Solar pool pumps have been optimized to operate alongside a solar array, however the mechanics are essentially the same as a conventional pump.

Solar Pool Pump Benefits

Reduction of energy costs - by replacing a conventional pump with solar you can reduce energy costs by 15 to 20%*.

Reliability - solar pool pumps are purpose-designed to perform on function only. The are extremely reliable and built to last for 10 to 15 years.

Contribution to community sustainability - the production of green energy reduces the use of fossil fuels and carbon emissions on the island, leading to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Roatan.

How it Works:

  1. Solar panels capture the sunlight and turn it into direct current (DC) electricity, which is sent to the pump controller.

  2. The solar pump controller maximizes solar production and regulates voltage/current to optimize pump performance.

  3. The DC current turns the pool pump motor which circulates the pool water through the pump housing and filter and then back to the pool making turning over the volume of the pool at least 1.8 times each day.

  4. A sand filter filters the water and sends it through the outflow pipe.

  5. Filtered water is sent through the outflow pipe to the pool.

Things to Know

The system is sunlight dependent and operates best in direct sunlight. The pump controller will reduce the speed of the pump during cloudy periods when solar production is reduced.

Pool pumps vary based on flow rate (gallons/minute) and number of full water recycles each day. Vegas Electric pool pumps are sized to recycle the full volume of water in the pool at least 1.6 times during a 6 hour period.

Solar pool pumps can be run as stand alone systems, relying solely on sunlight, or can be installed together with a conventional pump to ensure continuity of service during very rainy weather. Most Vegas Electric customers use stand alone solar with great results for both residential and commercial pools.
